History

Commencing Journey in 1954

In 1954, during Mr. Kamarajar as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, He encouraged common people to starts school to educate their own village people. Mr Rose Antony & Mrs. Sowriammal Rose Clara couples decided to start a school at kameswaram, on the St.Sebastian’s church campus. Thus school got the name St.Sebastian’s Primary School, it started with a thatch building.

Change in Management

Due to sudden demise of Mr Rose Antony, Mrs. Sowriammal Rose Clara and their son Mr. R.A.Periyanayagasamy & Mrs. Mary Amali Pushpam Periyanayagasamy took over the incharge for school management and continue to support the school operations.

1977 - Cyclone devastation & relocation

In 1977 Kameswaram faced a devastation by a Cyclone, it’s wiped out School thatch building, School cannot coninue to be operated in church campus as it’s flooded.

Mr. Kalimuthu Pillai dedicated his house to run the school till find the new location to operate.

1978 - Started Operating from new Location

Mr. Samiappan,S/o Mr. Ramasamy Chettiar Thiruppoondi, donated his land to construct new thatch building. Mr. Rajamanikkam Pillai Donated his land for way to access the School.

1992 - Upgraded as Elementary School

To empower students to continue locally the education till 8th std, particularly girls students, management upgraded to Elementary school.

2004 - Upgraded as High School

To empower students to continue locally the education till 10th std, particularly girls students, management upgraded to High school. Due Kumbakonam tragic fire incident, government enforced all the schools must have firesafe buildings. School mangement built a first concrete building. As people representative Mr. A.K.S.Vijayan MP of Nagappattinam, DMK party, allocated Rs.3.7 Lakhs from his MP fund.

2004 - Tsunami - Another disaster & recovery

School lost 3 of it’s students in tsunami. School were acted as temporary shelter for many who lost their homes on that incident. CPIM party donated Rs.10 Lakhs for tsunami affected village school and recovery, Mr. C.G.Kanagasundaram who was village president and belongs to that party assisted on that. School management built another building with 6 class rooms. Mr.Vedaiyan, ADMK party, allocated Rs. 1 Lakh from District Union fund to assist built a stage for school. Irrespective of political party they belonged, they are all helped to School growth and Students educations.

2014 - Change in Management

Due to demise of Mr. R.A.Periyanayagasamy & Mrs. Mary Amali Pushpam Periyanayagasamy, their sons R.A.P.Arockia Doss, R.A.P. Pushpanathan and R.A.P.Jeyaraj formed a Educational trust St.Sebastian’s Educational Trust to suppor the school operation.

2018 - Upgraded as Higher Secondary School

To empower students to continue locally the education till 12th std, particularly girls students, management upgraded to Higher Secondary school.
